2016 Leona Valley Sertoma Scholarship Program

Financial Support for College Bound Seniors

Spring is just around the corner and that means high school graduations and thoughts of college for many graduating seniors. The Leona Valley Sertoma has offered scholarships to local graduating seniors since 1999 with almost $50,000.00 given out in that time period and is proud to continue this fine tradition.

March 1, 2016 is the official kickoff of the 2016 Leona Valley Sertoma Scholarship Program and all applications must be submitted by March 31, 2016. With two scholarship categories, one for graduating seniors, and one for community college students looking to transfer to continue their academic studies, the Leona Valley Sertoma looks to help worthy students as they move on from high school and community college.

Qualifications information and applications are available at the Leona Valley Sertoma website: Leona Valley Sertoma or you can go directly to the Scholarship Program page at Scholarship Program.

Throughout the year Leona Valley Sertoma holds a variety of events and fundraisers and providing scholarships is one of the programs near and dear to their hearts. The number, and the amounts, of the scholarships are dictated by the amount of monies raised and the worthiness of the applicants. By helping students to continue their educations and build careers these Sertomans recognize they are insuring that the future can be a positive and exciting one.

Their hard work in putting on these events is supported by the community through their attendance and participation, which means the whole community can take pride in knowing it is supporting the hopes and dreams of these graduating seniors as they begin their journey in to adulthood. The educations they receive will enable them to become responsible adults with the ability to handle the challenges they will face in their careers, as parents, and as citizens.

The Leona Valley Sertoma Scholarship Program plays a key role in helping it’s members in achieving their stated mission of improving the quality of life in their local communities and to accelerate progress  in health, education, freedom, and democracy. Through this program and their other programs they are helping people to help themselves and encouraging personal development.

2016 Leona Valley Sertoma St. Patrick’s Day Dinner

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Leona Valley means joining with family, friends, and neighbors to enjoy a traditional Irish meal and perhaps even a little Irish coffee, too. All this is sure to put smiles on the faces of young and old alike as they gather at the Leona Valley Community building in a fellowship that unites the community, as neighbors get to know neighbors, and helps to create bonds of friendship that will last a life time.

These good times also serve a good cause as the dinner is an annual fundraising event put on by the Leona Valley Sertoma with the proceeds going to support their community programs. Leona Valley Sertoma meets on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month, at 8:00 a.m., at Jack’s Place on 90th Street West, in Leona Valley. To learn more about Sertoma talk to a current member, visit www.leonavalleysertoma.org, or come to one of the breakfast meetings.
