Antelope Valley College and the Leona Valley Sertoma’s Scholarship Program
On January 7, 2023 our Leona Valley Sertoma club had the honor of hosting speaker, Emily Moulton who specializes in and organizes foundation scholarships. Emily shared that Antelope Valley College began in 1929 when they jointly combined with Lancaster Union High School with only an attendance of 100 students.

To fast forward, regarding some of the Antelope Valley College history, the attendance extensively exceeded to more than 18,000 students in 1990 with a campus size of 135 acres. AND, as told by Emily Moulton, the enrollment will continue to grow in 2023 with an expected increase of 8,000 more students.
Thanks to a wonderful woman named Sandi Rogers, who was in charge of coordinating the scholarship foundation in 2013, Leona Valley Sertoma was introduced and invited to join the scholarship “giving” program. Our first $1,000 recipient was Yesinia Reyes who followed our criteria to major in deaf studies. Leona Valley Sertoma was the very first club to request this type of major. Up until this very day we are proud to have awarded $8,000 to special applicants. Our Scholarship Committee is preparing to screen our 2023 applicants, which will help us award that one deserving person the opportunity to broaden their educational experience under the leadership of Charlene Moore, Scholarship Chairperson and club President.
We encourage our local graduating students to check our website’s Scholarship Program that covers Green Valley, Elizabeth Lake, Lake Hughes, Three Points and Leona Valley. You will soon find a new 2023 entry form to be filled out that will explain ALL the required criteria. Our website is: www.leonavalleysertoma.org
Please remember that Leona Valley Sertoma hosts an 8am breakfast meeting on the first and third Saturday of each month. It is held at Jacks Place – 40352 90th St West in Leona Valley – we always have an open membership enrollment and would love to meet you. I am positive that you would love our “Service to Mankind” mission.
