April Rock – Sertoman of the Year 2022
April Rock moved to Leona Valley in mid-2020 and immediately began looking for a place she could go to participate in local events and help the community. Having previously been the PTA vice president for her daughters school, Girl Scout troop leader, organized a study pod for homeschooling during the pandemic and has spent many hours assisting at Muttville, she is no stranger to volunteering.
A native of the Antelope Valley, she has held many jobs in exciting and interesting places. Retail sales management while living on Maui, yacht insurance in downtown Seattle, and 15 years in the specialty food distribution market, managing customers all over the western United States. A creative person at heart, she started a business making handcrafted resin jewelry and has been marketing her products via craft fairs, pop-up markets and the internet.
To say April loves to travel is an understatement. Utilizing the unique opportunity the pandemic caused, she purchased an RV and traveled the country with her daughter and visited 27 states. She has backpacked through Thailand, spent a week in Malta, and many trips to Europe, including Ireland, France, Denmark, Holland, Sweden, Italy and Greece.
April has run the Dublin marathon, rode a bike from San Francisco to Los Angeles, completed many mud and obstacle runs, Ragnar, color run, and hiked and backpacked all over the state.
She is knowledgeable in many fields from design, to marketing to management. When she finds something she wants to do, she excels at it and doesn’t quit until she sees it through. She makes any organization she joins, better.
If you, like April, are looking for a place to volunteer and being part of a group of people interested in making a difference in your community, then you are encouraged to learn more about Leona Valley Sertoma.
