A New Member and Money for Kids Feeding Kids
Hello to all of the Lakes and Valley folks ~~~~ We / I have never created articles for the general public on our non-profit stationery before so I thought I would simply try it. (see below) As you hopefully know, our local Sertoma members have worked extremely hard to annually provide local and college scholarships and help MANY folks in Three Points, Green Valley, Lake Hughes, Lake Elizabeth and Leona Valley by means of raising funds to also help families “in need” throughout the year. WE want to say “THANK YOU” FOR YOUR LOYALTY AND EXTREME GENEROSITY which allows us to continue our small but mighty “Service to Mankind” mission.
Meet Dustin Cloud – Our Newest Member
On December 13th we hosted a General and Board meeting at the home of Ray Mullins ~~ Our President, April Rock, proudly welcomed and installed our newest member by the name of Dustin Cloud who lives, and is currently a farm manager, in Three Points. Dustin is no stranger to the area, especially Tweedy Lake ever since he was a child. Dustin is a tall and sturdy man who proudly wears his black cowboy hat and who loves to help his local and surrounding community (s). Sertoma is fortunate to have him as one of our members who is not shy about voicing his many great ideas. He asked how we acknowledged our sponsors, and suggested that we provide a “thank you” gift when they monetarily sponsor a very important event. Well, now ~ I thought that was a gracious idea and recently did JUST THAT for Christmas.
One sponsor provided several turkeys for families who needed a “little holiday help” and a second sponsor recently provided his many hours of physical labor for several events. Take a peak at the two, provided gift photos and the new membership photo.
Other than the recent holiday gifts this year, Sertoma is known for annually awarding one very special “Service to Mankind” plaque that we vote for and present to the person at our annual Christmas holiday party as well as a “Sertoman of the Year” plaque that our club votes on / this special person has gone over and above the call of duty exercising dignity and superior club representation.
Sertoma’s vision is for all who wish to serve, come together under common leadership and with one voice to serve many. PLEASE CHECK OUR WEBSITE BLOG @ leonavalleysertoma.org. WE sincerely wish you all a very Happy New Year filled with joy, safety and warmth.
Kids Feeding Kids
On November 11th, Sertoma hosted a “All Day” Cruise -In / sponsored by Jack’s Place. The restaurant provided 20% of all the meal proceeds (only) from
breakfast to dinner time. The end result was: WE raised $1,042. and awarded KFK a check that will help reimburse and help defray the cost to the kids that raised the steer and (primarily) the hogs to feed families who needed mealtime protein. This program is organized by the Junior Livestock Council. The kids, of many ages, raise these animals out of the generosity of their own time and own money just to make sure that families “in need’ of protein will receive the proper nutrition. Leona Valley representatives, Angie Hughes, Michelle & James Royal, Scott Clark and Brian Gorrindo are on this special KFK committee that are in charge of processing the full grown animals and delivering the packaged meat to more families than you could possibly imagine.
