My Horoscope for Tuesday 12-5-23
I admit it. I read my horoscope. Daily. For entertainment value, mind you, …and food for thought. That latter reason grabbed me when I read my Tuesday horoscope. Specifically, “…do something to make a difference.”
“Making a Difference” is at the core of what SERTOMA is all about. It is what their Mission statement is all about:
OUR PURPOSE:
To meet the needs of communities through volunteer service.
OUR VISION:
To create communities of change under common leadership and with a common voice that will serve the many in need.
OUR MISSION:
To improve the quality of life today for those at risk or impacted by hearing loss through education and support.
Leona Valley Days
Melody and I moved to Leona Valley in October 2000 and I joined Leona Valley Sertoma in the summer of 2001. It was the best thing to happen to me in many ways. For starters, I got to know many of my neighbors better and much quicker than I might have otherwise. The big one though, was being part of “making a difference” in the community, by participating in the development, planning, and implementing the various events, activities, and fundraisers put on by the group. I have some experience with volunteering and serving my community, as I grew up in a small town and I’m an Eagle Scout. Being a part of SERTOMA took it to a whole new level. As an adult, you get busy with your life, work and family take up most of your time and, as a result, my “making a difference” became writing a check to support this, or that, nonprofit. Donating to a worthy cause is noble and I still do it. However, rolling up my sleeves and being a part of “making a difference” and seeing that difference happening is so much better. I’m a better person, because of SERTOMA. To learn more about Leona Valley Sertoma and what they are doing, check out their Home Page or talk to a member.
Reading Your Horoscope
So, what’s in a horoscope? Whatever you read in to it. On Tuesday I was reminded to “make a difference”, and to be kind. This week we donated a couple of toys to the “CHIPS for Kids” toy drive, we do this every year. I guess my New Year’s resolution will be to find more ways to “make a difference” in my community and in the lives of those I come in contact with throughout the year. I hope you will join me and find ways to “make a difference”, too.

Thank you so much, Tom, for ALWAYS remaining involved…LV Sertoma loves you! We love EVERYTHING YOU WRITE because it places us in a very good light AND, you’re good at it!. This weekend we will be done with our annual food and toy drive collection…. On 12/11 we have a couple of wonderful ladies coming to check the dates on all collected items. We, actually, have been collecting food since mid November and Ray’s and my home looks like a grocery store. Thanks to Costco and Via del Sol Cherry Orchard, we will be providing 18Lb turkey’s and 12 Lb spiral hams. Ladies will come to our home to fill boxes of EVERYTHING (including gift cards) on 12/12 that will be provided to soooo many families in four different locations. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT OUR Leona Valley Sertoma is magical when it comes to “giving”. November and December are very loving and spiritual times for us ~~~~~ keep in mind that it isn’t “just the season(s)”, because the money that we proudly raise is distributed to households, Vets4Veterans and the Elks Lodge which allows us to help care for our Veterans. WE are a small club with a gigantic heart and our local communities LOVE US. ALL of our members with you and Melody a beautiful Christmas and a happy and healthy New year. xoxoxoxo from Granny Jan
